Regardless of how lovely it's outside, an afternoon or an evening inside with popcorn ticking off a christmas movie list is a must! Now I'm not talking about the latest 'kiss and make up because it's christmas romcom'. No no my friend, I'm talking about THOSE films, you know, the type of films that make you laugh out loud (none of this LOL nonsense), the type of films that you some how know every line from and well, of course are christmas themed(ish), or not.
Below is a list of my most perfect seasonal films, some are 'christmasy' some are not but all are worthy of a movie day and a HUGE bowl of popcorn.
Once you get to the end of the list and have watched all the trailers (click each title!), SURPRISE! There's two recipes for two different flavoured popcorn/s.
Pop some corn and get set to become best friends with your sofa.
1. Home Alone
2. National Lampooh's Christmas Vacation.
3. THE SANTA CLAUSE
4. Die Hard.
5. The Grand Budapest hotel
7. Miracle on 34th Street
8. Meet Me St. Louise.
10. The Holiday Inn.
Dark Chocolate and Raspberry popcorn.
1 TBSP Sunflower oil
1/3 cup of Corn Kernels
60grams of Dark Chocolate
Freeze dried Raspberry power
Melt the chocolate, I use a double boiler, so put this on first, set to a low heat and let melt slowly. While the chocolate is melting tip the oil and popcorn into a large saucepan and pop a lid on. Turn on a low - med heat and give the pot a wee shake every 30 seconds or so. Keep doing this until the popping calms down, then take off the heat when the popping is every 5-10 second apart.
Once the chocolate has melted and the popcorn has popped, pour the chocolate over the pop corn and mix. Keep mixing until it's coated all of the popped corn. Then tip out onto a large tray sprinkle a generous amount of the Raspberry powder over the corn and leave for an hour or two until the chocolate has set - if you can wait that long!
Sweet and Spicy Popcorn.
1 TBSP Sunflower Oil
1/3 cup of Corn Kernels
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper (This amount is quite spicy, the husband loved it but it was two much for me)
1/4 tsp Smoked Paprika
1/4 cup Dark Muscovado Sugar
Tip the oil and popcorn into a large saucepan and pop a lid on. Turn on a low - med heat and give the pot a wee shake every 30 seconds or so. Keep doing this until the popping calms down, then take off the heat when the popping is every 5-10 second apart.
Mix the spices and sugar together, tip into the same pot (alone with the popped corn), put the lid on and shake! Then put back onto a low heat and gently stir until all of the sugar has melted and coated the popped corn.
Tip into a bowl, let cool, then eat! This one is perfect with a cold beer!
