I've been trying to find a wee sun bonnet for Eilidh for ages, but they are either way too expensive, not quite what I had in mind or the patterns are too complicated. I mean I can sew, but if it takes me more than a few hours I'm over it!
The first one I made I didn't make the ties, as that's another thing I hate to sew, I just used some ribbon. The second one I made without the brim, which makes the sweetest wee bonnet and it stops her from scratching her head - She's an eczema baby.

A couple of tips:
I found the pattern to be quite large so made her age size, but didn't include a seam allowance and I found that it fitted with room to grow.
Pick a nice fabric for the lining also as it can be reversible - that's if you don't mind the small darts showing at the back. I used a pinkish linen and calico to line it.
Don't start it a 1/2 hour before you plan on putting it on the child. You will not have time.
In the above photo, I've just folded back the brim.
